Founded by Peter Buckey, his son Marteny Buckey traded it to Montgomery Hart in 1860. The hotel was burned in the 1891 downtown fire.

About 1900 the Beverly Market building was built on a part of this lot. This rectangular frame building has a "false front," brick facing, and an addition on the north side.
